A couple of weeks ago, I spent some time in London. I enjoyed myself so much – I mean it’s London what’s not to love – that I thought I’d put together a guide to having a fantastic time there. One of the most amazing cities in the world, London is the perfect place for almost any trip. Be it a weekend of romance with your beau or a break with the girls, it doesn’t matter.
The only problem with this amazing cosmopolitan city is that there’s too much to see and do. From museums and galleries to parks and attractions, there’s so much on offer. While this is a good thing, as it means while in London, you’ll never be bored, it does make trip planning a little more difficult. That being said, it doesn’t have to, it’s just a case of being organised for your trip.
To help you plan an amazing trip and ensure that you have the best time, I wanted to share a few tips. As well as a few of the best sights and attractions to explore while you’re there, and, of course, the best places to eat and drink.
Booking your hotel
As with any city, London accommodation can be pretty pricey. However, the good news is that if you’re smart about where you book it, it doesn’t have to be. Websites like Wowcher and Groupon always have London hotel deals on them, so they’re more than worth a look. The hotels on offer might not be The Ritz but they’re establishments with three or four stars – aka, nice places. London can be expensive, so any chance of saving money is worth taking advantage of. Just make sure to check the location of your hotel before you book, to ensure it’s close enough to the city centre.
The most amazing places to eat and drink
Choosing the best places to eat and drink in London can be tricky. Of course, you’ve got chain restaurants and bars like Prezzo, Jamie’s Italian, The Slug and Lettuce, and so on. But there are also plenty of independent places worth a try. If you’re going to eat out, opt to go somewhere a little different. Do your research on the best independent places to eat and pick one of those to try. Both The West Village and Covent Garden have some fantastic restaurants and bars, such as Hawksmoor and Masala Zone Covent Garden. There are, of course, many more fantastic places – have a look on TripAdvisor for inspiration.
The best ways to see the city
If you’re new to London, I would highly recommend going on a tour of the city. The great thing about taking part in a tour is that you’ll get to see all of London’s very best sights. Be it a walking tour or bus tour, it doesn’t matter, it’s just a case of choosing the one that offers the best sights and attractions. One of the city’s most popular tours are the Touriocity Sightseeing Tours; that run all over the city. These are popular because they’re one of the best private tour operators.
Attractions you have to see
As well as seeing the sights via a tour, if you have the time, it’s also worth exploring a few of your favourite ones. If you’re a shopping addict, Oxford Street is a must-visit, as is Selfridges. Then there’s all the amazing London museums and galleries. From the Tate Modern to The Natural History Museum – many of these are free to visit. Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament, The London Dungeons, and Westminster Abbey are all fantastic sights also worth a visit.
There you have it, my top tips and tricks for having the best time in London. Happy travelling!
