If you’re working full time, only have a limited budget or just feel like you’re stuck in a bit of a rut, it can be difficult to find the motivation to get out there and travel. For some people just taking a couple of weeks off work to get away from it all is enough, but for others who are considering leaving their job or selling their home to travel, it can be a much tougher decision. If you feel like you need a little travel inspiration then take a look at these 10 reasons why you should get out there and see the world, now!
1. You only live once
This is probably the best reason to get out there and travel. There’s no point spending your life wondering ‘what if?’ The world is ready for you now so go and explore it!
2. You hate your job
If you’ve been stuck in the same mundane office job for as long as you can remember and you long to pack it all in and do something spontaneous then maybe you should listen to your instincts. Of course, I’m not saying you should do anything too drastic. Give yourself a few months to save up and decide if it’s really what you want to do. Just remember, there’s no reason why you can’t combine travelling with getting a new job. Perhaps you could work as a languages assistant or do some voluntary work.
3. You’re young (or young at heart)
Some people decide to travel while they’re still young and free from responsibilities, which is great, but just because you’re ‘old’ doesn’t mean you can’t travel. In fact, it’s all the more reason to do it! As you get older you may find you have commitments which stop you from travelling. Perhaps you’re paying off your mortgage or have a steady job. If that’s the case then maybe think about renting out one of your rooms while you’re away so you still have some income coming in. If you’re working ask your boss how they would feel about you taking an extended vacation. ‘Gap years’ in later life are becoming much more common.
4. You can do what you want when you want
The world is your oyster. Instead of waking up in the morning and making your morning commute to work you can wake up in the morning and take a boat trip to an island or a bike ride around a new city. The beauty of it is that you can set your own hours!
5. You’ve never had the money to travel before
And you may not think you do now, but travelling the earth doesn’t have to cost the earth. Maybe you have been working for a while and have saved up enough to finally jet off somewhere exotic. Or, perhaps you have a much more limited budget. If this is the case, then there are countless ways to travel cheaply.
6. You don’t have to worry about bad hair days or doing your make up
The great thing about travelling is that no one really cares what you look like and it’s perfectly acceptable to look a little dishevelled most of the time. Who has time to brush their hair every day anyway?
7. You’ll experience different cultures
There’s so much out there to see and it’s worth trying to experience as much of it as possible. Whether it’s trying a new type of food or learning about local traditions, experiencing other cultures can really open your mind and make you a much better-rounded person. Also, just think of all the stories you’ll have to tell!
8. You’ll get the opportunity to ‘find yourself’
Many people who travel will find that they are a different person when they come back. Experiencing different cultures and different people gives you a much more open mind and living without the distraction you’d have back at home can give you time to concentrate solely on you.
9. You’ll experience a challenge
If you’re looking for a challenge then you can definitely find it by travelling. Especially if you’re travelling solo or heading to a completely different continent, everything will pose new challenges for you. You will learn to live without your home comforts and you’ll probably have a few slip-ups along the way but its all part of the experience.
10. You’ll meet loads of new people
Within the first few minutes of setting yourself down in your hostel dorm you’ll probably be overwhelmed by the number of people you’ll meet Some of them may be passing acquaintances who you have a few amazing nights out with, whereas others you may be travelling with for weeks.
Some people might not need any encouragement to get out there and travel whereas others may need a little inspiration. Whatever your situation there’s always a way to travel, even if it’s just for a short period.
So, what are you waiting for?
